Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Groups

The mission of LSA is to diversify the screen industries and we encourage our students to take action and inform positive change within the school and the wider world. Not only does this inspire work, but it also means that our students are thinking about differing experiences and perspectives. We have a number of student-led groups that focus on areas of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Students are encouraged to explore as many of these groups as they want and to consider the intersectionality of these topics.

  • Gender Equality Group

    If you are interested in Gender Equality within the school, the outside world and want to make sure there is equity within the industry you end up working in, why not join the Gender Equality Group?

    Open to all genders, members of the Gender Equality Group come together to create a student run magazine and explore issues that concern you and celebrate successes that are inspirational!

  • EIC

    The Ethnicity Inclusion Committee (EIC) could be of interest to you if you like the idea of discussing topics that affect People of Colour and want to learn more and be a part of active change within the school, in the outside world and in the industry you’ll work in. 

    EIC discussion topics have included, 'Positive Discrimination: Pros and Cons' and 'How to Deal with Microaggressions'. Students have created an Inclusivity Dictionary and have spoken to people who work in the industry to discuss the importance of representing diversity within their films and to find out what initiatives are being developed to support and encourage people of colour to have an impact in the industry. 

  • Eco Changemakers

    If you are interested in the environment and tackling climate change, and want to look at how things such as transport, energy and food have an impact on our shared planet, then you could join the Eco Changemakers!

    So far, the Eco Changemakers have been undertaking an audit of LSA's carbon footprint and working on a range of initiatives to make improvements within the school, within the creative industries and beyond. They have held discussions with Greenpeace, hosted a sustainable clothes swap and have done litter picking in LSA's local park.

  • Pride


    If you want to share aspirations, experiences and hopes for the school, outside world and the industry for LGBTQ+ communities or want to learn how to be an active ally, Pride! Group might be for you!

    So far, the Pride! Group has discussed topics such as 'Queer Representation in Film and TV' and 'Intersectionality', they have been working to increase knowledge across the school, even presenting an assembly on Active Allyship. They are currently working on a short film.

  • Anti Ableism


    If you want to make sure that all aspects of life at LSA are accessible to all of our students then the Anti-Ableism group might be for you!

    This group actively discusses disability and neurodiversity inclusion in the Film & TV industry and how to ensure that entry-level opportunities are accessible to everyone. The Anti-Ableism group have arranged industry masterclasses with disability experts, programmed screenings of films with positive representation of disabled people and reviewed aspects of the LSA curriculum, making suggestions that will encourage positive change going forward.
